Suffering the Fools

Most writers that I know are tremendously perceptive. They see details that others miss or else ignore. For a writer, there's no going from point A to point B because we see the letters in between. Such is certainly the case for those of us suffering Trump supporters. I don't know one writer, or any other artist for that matter, that supports the sick bastard. We see right through him quite clearly, and it is difficult to understand why so many others cannot. It is especially frustrating when our own family members are blind to the truth. Such is the case with my North American family.

Some background is in order. I now live in Mexico, and recently an earthquake killed over three hundred where we live.

I recently posted this on Facebook:

West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943), is a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States holding that the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution protected students from being forced to salute the American flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance.

When I taught high school in the US, it was considered mandatory for students to stand up and recite the pledge. I taught them that the Supreme Court had ruled many years ago that they didn't have to. I was treated by most of my fellow teachers as Kaepernick is now being treated. Most of my students decided not to stand after they knew the truth. Of course I was fired.

Please take the time to look at the words in the Pledge. Under God, indivisible…justice for all? You've got to be kidding! Any vestiges of truth in the Pledge have been removed by idiots like Trump, Bush (remember him?), and the like. It's time for North Americans to start thinking for themselves. If you're a gun owner, start by shooting your TV and reading a book. If you supported Trump, it's still not too late to show that you are no longer brain dead.

Getting Trump out is way over due. Come on people! Speak out! Protest! Take back your country! The whole world is watching you. Writers and artists...get your voice out there. Stephen King, John Irving, and other great writers are telling it like it is. Come forward to protest against this insidious enemy of mankind, this abomination that is Donald Trump and his cronies. Please, do it now! Republicans...do the right thing. Excise the scourge that has made your party the laughing stock, and rebuild with dignity.

A few hours later, my sister wrote me this:

🇺🇸 God Bless the USA...glad Senor Vossler survived the earthquake in Mexico..perhaps he can help his own people and let us brain dead stand up for the country we love!

See what I mean about family? I used to think I was pretty good with words, yet they have proved ineffective against such abject ignorance...the kind of stupidity that still supports a monster like Trump, and can attack me and my family because we have chosen not to live there anymore.

What does all this have to do with writing? Not much, but sometimes you just have to shout out. I'll get back to the workshops on my next blog.
